OTHER WAYS TO HELP

Organize a Donation Drive

Rally your friends, coworkers, or community group to collect gently used supplies we always need — igloos, crates, pens, toys, and more. Then drop off your haul at our Northglenn PetSmart adoption event, any Saturday from 12–3pm.

"I love helping fur babies find their forever home." "As a dog walker, I get to give each puppy a chance to stretch their legs and get some fresh air."
"Walking the puppies through the store lets people see how they interact — it gives them the exposure they need to find a safe, loving home." "I volunteer because I love animals and want to help them find good homes." "It's all about the dogs." "I love the idea of rescuing at-risk dogs — even though it's a lot of hard work." "By helping out, I know more dogs can be rescued."

Volunteer FAQ

Have questions about volunteering? Find answers about how to help RMPR and what to expect throughout the process.

Why should I volunteer with Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue?

Every volunteer helps save lives.

Our volunteers make it possible to care for animals, connect them with loving families, and keep our adoption events running smoothly. Whether you're helping a puppy meet its new family, greeting adopters, or folding laundry behind the scenes, you're making a real difference for homeless animals.

How do I get started volunteering?

Fill out the volunteer application at rmpuppyrescue.org/volunteer.

You will receive an email asking you to sign our online waiver form, then you’ll be added to our email list to be notified of upcoming volunteer opportunities.

How often do I have to volunteer?

That's up to you!

Many volunteers help at our Saturday adoption events whenever their schedules allow, while others volunteer more regularly. We appreciate every hour you can give.

Some specialized roles, like cat care, do require a more consistent commitment.

What happens on my first day?

We'll help you get started!

When you arrive, we'll introduce you to the team, explain your assignment, and answer any questions you have. New volunteers typically work alongside experienced volunteers so you can learn by doing.

You won't be expected to know everything on your first day.

Can I volunteer with cats instead of dogs?

Absolutely!

Our cat care volunteers help care for adoptable cats by:

  • Cleaning and refreshing cat enclosures
  • Feeding cats
  • Refreshing litter boxes
  • Playing and socializing with the cats
  • Making sure they're comfortable and safe

This role requires a regular commitment and is perfect for dedicated cat lovers.

Will someone train me?

Yes.

Some volunteer jobs require a little extra training because they involve animal safety or the adoption process.

For example, new dog walkers first walk with an experienced volunteer or staff member before walking independently. Volunteers who conduct adoption interviews first shadow an experienced interviewer to learn the process.

Why are there so many safety procedures?

The safety of our animals, adopters, and volunteers is our top priority.

Many of our puppies haven't completed their full vaccination series, so volunteers help prevent the spread of illness by using hand sanitizer, cleaning visiting areas between families, and following safe handling practices.

These procedures help keep every puppy healthy while they wait for their forever home.

Will I get to hold puppies?

After you are trained, yes — but safety always comes first!

Our volunteers are trained on safe puppy handling. For example, families must be seated when interacting with puppies, puppies are always supervised during visits, and volunteers never leave puppies alone with visitors.

You must have approval as a new volunteer to handle any RMPR dog or cat.

These procedures help prevent injuries and create a safe experience for everyone.

Do volunteers help people adopt dogs?

Yes!

Experienced volunteers play an important role in the adoption process by:

  • Greeting potential adopters
  • Answering questions
  • Explaining the adoption process
  • Helping families meet dogs
  • Conducting adoption interviews after training

Helping create successful matches between dogs and families is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities we offer.

Do I need to bring my own lunch?

Nope!

Volunteers at our Saturday adoption events get a free lunch as a thank-you for donating their time. It's a great chance to take a break, get to know other volunteers, and recharge before helping more animals find their forever homes.

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably and be prepared to spend time around animals.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Some volunteer roles involve lifting, bending, walking dogs, or cleaning up after animals, so comfort is key.

What makes a great RMPR volunteer?

The best volunteers aren't necessarily the ones with the most animal experience — they're the ones who are dependable, flexible, and willing to help wherever they're needed.

Great volunteers:

  • Love animals
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Follow safety procedures
  • Treat adopters with kindness and respect
  • Aren't afraid to jump in and help with whatever needs to be done

Every role, no matter how big or small, helps save lives.

I'm not ready to volunteer. Are there other ways to help?

Absolutely!

If volunteering isn't the right fit right now, you can still support Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue by:

  • Fostering a dog or cat
  • Adopting a pet
  • Donating funds or supplies
  • Sharing adoptable animals on social media
  • Telling friends and family about our rescue

Every act of support helps us rescue more animals.

Can’t volunteer? Please consider donating.

Every cent you are able to donate makes a difference.
