Before Attending An Event

Familiarize yourself with our available dogs

View all of our available dogs and puppies here. Select a few that you are interested in. You will mark this information on the adoption application in step 2.

Fill out an adoption application

You may apply online or you may download the application, fill it out and bring it to an adoption event. There will also be applications at the events that you can fill out in person. Submitting an application online is no guarantee of your approval and we cannot hold dogs.

Collect supplementary adoption paperwork

Along with an application, you will need to bring a proof of residency (mortgage statement, house tax document).  If you are renting, you will need to bring a lease agreement stating you are allowed to own an animal and we must see the breed and weight restrictions.

Find an adoption event to attend

You must attend an event to adopt. View our event calendar to find an adoption event to attend. We recommend getting there early.

At Adoption Event

Sign in at RMPR front table

The event is predominately first-come, first-serve, so get there early. If you do not have your paperwork (listed above), you will go to the back of the line until you can get your paperwork in order. Be prepared to spend around 3 hours of fun at the event.

Interview

We take groups of 6-8 back to step 2a-2b.

One of our volunteers will take your application and ask you some quick questions. Half of the groups will be interviewed while the other half meet the dogs. Half way through, groups will swap activities.

Meet the Dogs & Puppies

You will be taken to meet the dogs and puppies. You can meet with different dogs/puppies until you can identify your top 3.

Complete adoption & Take your new family member home

After a selection is made, you will be taken back to the payment station. You will be given paperwork on your new family member, and a bag of their current food so you can taper to a new food if you choose.  Finally, you will go back to the event front table and claim your animal after producing a stamped receipt.

Adoption Event FAQ

Q:  I saw a pup online, is it sill available?

A:  Any dogs that were adopted at a weekend even will be taken off the website by Monday Night.

Q:  When will you have new puppies/dogs?

A:  New puppies/dogs are added all the time.  We usually update the site on Thursdays.

Q:  How do you determine who gets what dog?

A:  When all things are equal between adopters’ applications, we will use our event sign-in sheet to determine who arrived first.  Early arrival at our events helps but is not a guarantee of adoption approval.

Q:  Are these pups pure bred? Will you call us when you get a pure bred in?

A:  RMPR does occasionally get pure bred puppies and dogs.   Most of our dogs/pups are mutts, or MIXED breeds. If you want a pure bred rescue, please go to:  allbreedrescuenetwork.com or type your breed search into PETFINDER.com and expand your search to surrounding states. RMPR does not have the ability to  call each potential adopter.

Q:  Do I have to pay an adoption fee?

A:  RMPR is a nonprofit organization and runs on its adoption fees. We do not adopt for free, as then we cannot  support  our veterinary and travel (to save dogs from shelters across multiple states).
